Avid selects Xyratex hardware to deploy near-line storage

Expectations regarding storage capacity and affordability can make it difficult to balance the two, but demand can often be met by utilizing the appropriate mixture of technology. Bringing together cloud storage and archiving, media software company Avid recently adopted Xyratex OneStor to develop ISIS 2000.

Avid ISIS 2000 is a near-line storage offering that is designed to facilitate enterprise search and access for media content. Ed Prager, senior vice president for Xyratex explained that the technology allows for 240 TB of capacity within five rack units. He noted that other industries have already achieved cost-of-ownership reductions by employing Xyratex technology, but Avid represents a new vertical by utilizing drives for rich media content.

“The OneStor storage solution from Xyratex is the ideal storage application platform to serve these needs, and it makes our software that much better and more valuable to our customers,” said Kevin Usher, director of media enterprise at Avid.

In addition to bringing its technology into new territory, Xyratex was recently commended by the United Kingdom’s Cloud Computing Magazine. The publication recognized the company with its 2013 Cloud Storage Excellence Award, highlighting the scalability and performance benefits of ClusterStor.

“This award underscores the rapid adoption of our ClusterStor family of storage solutions, and the tremendous value it brings to data-intensive computing environments,” said Ken Claffey, senior vice president of the ClusterStor business at Xyratex. “The introduction of the ClusterStor 6000 was an important milestone for us, and in collaboration with our partners we’re helping end users achieve best-in-class performance, reliability and scalability – including implementing the fastest data storage system in the world.”

Xyratex is a Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance partner.
