A tablet with a side of storage please

Given the widespread and almost immediate adoption of the Apple iPad, coupled with everyone under the sun vying for a piece of the tablet market, consumption of content looks to continue to explode.  And with an explosion in consumption comes the aftershock of storage demand. In a recent IDC Link email, David Reinsel, John Rydning recently quoted,

For now, IDC sees the rise in demand for pads/tablets as additive and a net-neutral dynamic for HDD makers….it will be additive for HDD makers in terms of the growth of information and digital content that has to be stored somewhere. That content and information consumed by these devices most likely will be stored on hard disk drives in data centers, cloud infrastructures, or on USB or network-attached personal storage devices in homes.

That whole window into content idea…

I think it may also boost demand for laptop hard drives.  I’ll buy a tablet, because they make it so much easier to consume content. At the same time, my laptop is getting pushed to the limits in terms of computing power and content creation. I am not going to buy both, so I thought, why not go for the tablet and upgrade the laptop?

I’d be happy to spend $100.00 to $150.00 on a new hard drive. Maybe higher capacity like Seagate’s Momentus 750GB, or maybe tons of performance like the Momentus XT hybrid.  A simple drive upgrade can add years of use to my laptop and will help me weather the storm of content creation until I’m ready to invest in a new system…problem solved.

What say you?
