Considering according to Wikipedia, “commercial usage of hard disk drives began in 1956 with the shipment of an IBM 305 RAMAC” and according to Symantec’s timeline, could we say that hard drives made the cloud possible? Heck, they’re still one of, if not the key component that makes it possible today (See Dear cloud storage providers…you’re welcome).

So this says the cloud is nothing new, nor is the hard drive for that matter…but like any other technology advancement, they get better with age.
