Just for fun – killers of art or creators of artists?

Reading Curtis Silver’s  Geek Dad blog on Wired.com titled “Records: the Vinyl Frontier” made me wonder if people believe that hard drives are killing traditional art forms?  I would argue they are creating a new inception of artists. The fact that album art is a thing of the past is a sad reality.  Though I no longer listen to albums as some true vinyl traditionalists do, I do recognize the artistry of the album art of old.

So did the hard drive kill this art form?  Perhaps, as an enabler of technology, but not all by themselves.  One thing is for sure, they (hard drives) have opened the door to new artists and has enabled the artist in each and every one of us be it writing, photography, video, or even music.  The fact that a little known author, photographer, movie maker, or band can write a blog, take pictures, make movies, or record music and deliver to virtually anyone at any time is a good thing.

So what’s worse?  A world without vinyl album art, or a world with much less artists?

You know where I stand, but I do miss those sweet Iron Maiden album covers.

It didn’t kill anything. It warehouses more “art” than can be imagined, and allows that “art” to be shared by the masses. That’s something wonderful.
