Reaping the rewards of the Creation Continuum

FAR_4584Check out Intel’s news release around what HP multi-core processor based workstations bring to DreamWorks Animation.

“By placing tools that are dramatically faster in the hands of artists, DreamWorks Animation hopes to inspire a new generation of filmmaking.” – Dreamworks
“HP workstations will be transformational, turning hours into seconds, days into minutes, and years into quarters,” – HP.

Made me think about the obvious relationship between creation and consumption…

The faster we create, the more we create.
The more we create, the more we consume.
The more we consume, the faster we create
The faster we create …  it’s an infinite loop.

This is a great piece written about a Creation Continuum, and how teachers can make education less about consumption and more about creation using technology.  Before the digital age, we learned by consuming information, and were measured on how well we could report what we consumed, and how well we retained what we consumed.  Today, the article argues, that students should be measured on how well they create as well as how effectively they consume.

We are all consumers of digital content and no doubt technology companies continue to innovate and develop products that enable us to consume more (e.g. Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad, etc).  The true magic are not only innovations that are enabling us to create more (Flip cameras, WordPress, YouTube, etc) but those companies enabling us to create faster (e.g. Intel, HP, etc.)

Because, the faster we create, the more we’ll consume, and we’re all happier reaping the rewards of this infinite loop …. especially storage 🙂
