Seagate to give away 3 homes

It’s not exactly HGTV’s Dream Home giveaway, but to those of us that have multiple PCs with tons of digital photos, music, videos, whatever… and are looking for an easy way to store it, share it, and/or protect it, this is a dream giveaway.  Seagate’s new GoFlex Home is here, and Seagate is giving away 3 of them to fans.

I don’t know about you, but in my house, I have multiple PCs, all packed with content and I want to enjoy it whenever, wherever I want.  I don’t want to spend a ton of cash on a full blown NAS.  I want wireless capabilities, and ease of use for my family. The GoFlex Home may be right up my alley. What catches my eye about this solution?

Okay, the price is one thing ($159.99 for 1TB of storage), but feature-wise, it’s pretty packed.  My top 5 reasons for getting one are (in no particular order):

1. Can act as my iTunes server
2. Accessibility from my iPhone
3. Sets up in < 5 minutes
4. Works with my Mac and Windows PC
5. Automatic backup via my wireless network

Seagate is giving away 3 GoFlex Home systems.  For a chance to be one of the lucky 3,  just let me know what you think… what feature(s) would you use most? Comment here, and you just may get to.

I would definitely use the GoFlex Home as my family’s media server so we can share all of our music, and movies and pictures. It’ll give us something to discuss around the dinner table! 🙂

Setup in < 5 minutes is great, but the iTunes server might be the best… oh wait, second best after availability for all the family members! 🙂 And wirelessly… best of all! 😀

No wait, too many features worthy of position #1!

Seems pretty great! Would definitely use this to replace the FreeAgent I’ve been using to hold my media. Much more accessible without sacrificing the space!

I’d use a GoFlex Home as both a media server and a place to run automatic backups of crucial data. With 3 laptops and 2 desktops in the house, a 1 TB centrally shared storage system would make life MUCH more simple!

This would make it very easy for the family to share music, Photos and could also serve as a back up for our DVR. Not to mention the endless possibilities of being able to back up games saves from the PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii….

I love the fact that you can stream content to the Freeagent theater! We have two of them here, so that would be awesome! I also love that it can automatically backup files and folders from my computer. We love Seagate products here. Thanks for the great giveaway!

As I create photos & consume video/music, I need a way to (i) backup-backup-backup my previous files (ii) store files and (iii) share them wirelessly w/o having to lug my laptop up a flight of stairs to share. So, those are the 3 main functions I’d love to use the GoFlex for.

I love the idea of being able to store and share the files. Have 3 different people on 3 different computers. Would be great to store things like pictures and such and easily access them from all 3 with out having to transfer files. Sounds great. And the amount of storage is staggering to me! My first PC had a 1.7 Gb hard drive on it!

This is the next gen of internet technology. As a Graduate Student developing complex chemical engineering analysis, the last thing I need is to worry if I saved everything to my thumb drive, or emailed it to my Gmail, or lost it in a hard drive failure. The Seagate GoFlex Home System allows me to access my files remotely, and have all my family photos, home videos & movies, as well as my latest homework easily accessible. This is priceless to me and allows me to rest assured that I have not failed to have a back up plan.

I also found out it will not work with the apple airport extreme connected to its USB port on back unless it is formatted in FAT32. I already backed everything up onto it. I would use this for my 2 laptops to share files.music and access it from outside the home when away. Wish they would just sell the base seperatly.

I would love to win one of these. I made the mistake buying an Iomega Netstore because of the ethernet connection and its promise to be an itunes server.

Unfortunately, the drive can be seen on itunes, but you can’t do anything with the files! I’m hoping Seagate’s application will work correctly so I can finally get my music collection working again!

I love my Seagate products, especially my FreeAgent Go and the new dock for it. The GoFlex looks amazing! We’ve been looking for 1TB storage and a way to share files. We have a ton of pictures, music and even video/movies that we like to share and display on the TV. What a great idea!

As a media server. I currently use an external hard drive to hold my music, movies and video, especially motorcycle races. But, with the number and size of files, MBs of storage run out very quickly.
The MAC/PC compatibility is gravy to the system, since we use both in our household.

Wow, talk about packing a punch in one little device! I love that it automatically backs up your information via wireless network. I am guilty of not backing up my files and now it’s nipping me in the bud! I have about 4 years worth of photos, music, & school files on my laptop that are at risk of being lost should my laptop fail *knock on wood*… The fact that the GoFlex system does it for me automatically is a BIG plus! Not to mention, it’s a quick set-up & compatibile with PC or MAC.

Another thing I REALLY love…. the fact that it can stream content to media players and game consoles! Yes. iAMinLOVE! I simply love tech gadgets! The daily innovations never cease to amaze me.

Seagate, please help save my computer files 🙂

Thanks for the giveaway! I have never backed up my computer, and was just looking over the weekend at these types of drives. I’m not especially tech savvy, so if i were to win, i’d be happy to write a review about how easy it was to set up and backup, no geeks required. But only if it is actually easy, of course 😉

  128. David July 22, 2010 at 11:01 am - Reply

Too many computers and the manual task of backing up by external hard drives can waste some important play time.

Wireless backup and iTunes server itself are super handy features..can’t beat the price..and above all the confidence of Seagate products that we’ve been using for several years.Could defi use the extra space

A Seagate Home would be used to back-up all the data files on the various laptops in the house. Kids are constantly creating new things, taking a lot of pictures, etc. It’s bad that none of it is currently backed up, but getting multiple laptops from the kids on a regular basis is near impossible. The automatic back-up would be a great feature to have for them.

    Hi there…
The best thing is the wirless backup. But could it backup multiple pc devices.

I think a successfull idea is to make it backup without the user being asked about any thing except in the begning. We can put a syst tray to tell the user that everything is ok.

It is very nice that it could Work as a itune server.

Other thing is that it is good looking to put it beside your pc or lcd.
