Speed vs Security… security always wins

Yeah!  I got my hands on a Momentus XT drive and could not wait to have it installed in my Dell laptop which currently takes 5 minutes to boot.  I was looking forward to giving my trusty laptop a makeover, making it feel young again, fast, responsive, and much more productive.

But wait! The IT powers that be put the kabosh on laptop upgrades to Momentus XT instead making security the priority and pushing for Momentus FDE to be installed and/or enabled on all corporate laptops. Buzz kill.

After the buzz kill wore off,  I thought about it more objectively. What would I rather have speed or security?  Speed is nice, but when it all comes down to me being responsible for my corporate laptop and the data that sits on it, I’ll vie for security.

Heck, maybe some day, Seagate will release a Momentus XT FDE.  I can only hope.

So now, this baby is going in the home laptop.  All is good.
