“SSD-class performance at price point everyone can afford”…copycat

Check out the latest edition of RAM’s TechInsight: “Intel’s SSD 311: Complimenting Z68 Express

It basically lays the claim that up to 64GB of SSD when combined with a 1, 2, or 3TB hard drive will deliver to performance enthusiasts the SSD benefits they crave at an affordable price.

The primary SSD benefit being performance and when combined with a hard drive, you can have the performance without sacrificing capacity.  Intel calls it their SSD 311. A 64GB SSD product when combined with their Smart Response Technology “is a great way to enable SSD-class performance at price point everyone can afford.”

There are similarities between Intel SSD 311 and Smart Response Technology to what Seagate has been saying since the launch of Momentus XT last year:

  • You only need a small amount of flash to achieve SSD performance
  • You shouldn’t have to sacrifice capacity
  • SLC NAND is used over MLC NAND for increased performance

I just wonder when Seagate will heed this article’s advice and put hybrid on a 1,2, or 3TB hard drive.  That’s a story for another time.  I’m just excited that it seems Intel has adopted the same hybrid value prop.

I highly doubt Intel is “copycat-ing” us.  It’s just nice to know our value prop resonates with the likes of Intel.
