Everyone’s heard that Intel has purchased McAfee for some $7+ Billion dollars. With the acquisition, Intel looks to better integrate security in nearly everything they make, with mobile devices and cloud solutions (servers & storage) being of the utmost priority.
Paul Otellini, Intel’s CEO, said in a statement, “In the past, energy-efficient performance and connectivity have defined computing requirements. Looking forward, security will join those as a third pillar of what people demand from all computing experiences.” Well said Paul…
As a Seagate guy, it sounds so familiar… energy efficient performance, connectivity, and security in one package. Where have I heard that before?
Oh yeah…Seagate’s Unified Storage for the enterprise…
- 2.5-inch form factor (energy efficient performance)
- SAS interface (connectivity)
- Self-encrypting drive (security)
Seagate’s Unified Storage is a relatively new concept. Maybe Intel’s desire to establish security as a technology pillar will help drive awareness for “other” security options out there. Self-encrypting drives is just one of them.
