Seagate was a winner in the American Technology Awards (ATAs) Showcase in Washington, D.C. last week. The company was honored in the Server and Storage Technology category for its Kinetic Open Storage platform.

Launched in October, 2013, the Kinetic platform eliminates the storage-server tier of traditional data center architectures by enabling applications to speak directly to the storage device. The platform simplifies data management, improves performance and scalability while lowering total cost of ownership of average cloud infrastructures by up to 50 percent.

As part of the ATA’s peer- and industry-selected award process, the Kinetic platform was judged based on innovation, intellectual property, commercial viability, value proposition and impact on the industry and economy.

“This is yet another proof point of market validation of the Kinetic vision and opportunity,” said Ali Fenn, senior director, product line management, at Seagate. “We are thrilled to have won this honor against a field of very significant nominees.”

The ATA Showcase recognizes outstanding achievements in technology. Other winners in 15 categories included: HP (which won in the Software category for its HP Velocity); AT&T (a winner in the Telecommunications category); and Olympus, which received the Breakthrough Technology of the Year prize for its 3D videoscope, a device that enables medical professionals to view and analyze anatomy more precisely through 3D technology.

Presented by the TechAmerica Foundation, the ATA Showcase brought together technology trendsetters and their customers, U.S. legislators and other U.S. government representatives.
