Android Ships more than iPhone!

As a recent (6 months) convert from a Black-Berry to the iPhone, I’ve also grown interested in the Android platform.  So I was surprised to learn that Android based phone shipments for Q1 of 2010 actually beat iPhone shipments (BlackBerry still #1).  Chalk this up to some basic strategy differences for Apple not opening their OS to other phone developers and also restricting service to AT&T and you can see how Android has made such significant progress.  Still, achieving a 28% share, according to  the NPD Group is impressive, especially given the ad space and PR awareness for for iPhone.  Having a had a chance to play with my neighbor’s Android based phone, I can definitely see how they will continue to give Apple a major run for their money.  I believe the key will be the growth potential of Adroid based apps. Clearly iPhone has a big app base, but data suggests Android users may me more apt to use apps – as reported by PCWorld.

Isn’t technology fun?

Actually this is because people were waiting for the leaked iphone 4 — which handily trounces anything Android — but thanks for playing!

Could be – but I know quite a few folks who love their Droids! Personally, I’m an iPhone convert, but I love to see the competition.
