Does Amazon Fire TV Stick set Streaming Video Ablaze or is it Just a Smoldering Ember?

If you have a love for Amazon and their products, then you’ll love the Amazon Fire TV stick.

Amazon recently announced it’s joined the video-streaming playground along with Roku and Google Chromecast with their Amazon Fire TV Stick. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is available now to pre-order for $39 (shipping November 19th) and will allow you to stream content from Netflix and Amazon Prime as well as music, games and much more. This announcement comes hot on the heels of Google announcing Android TV and their new Lollipop OS.

When compared to Roku and Google Chromecast, the Fire TV Stick stacks up pretty well taking the lead over its rivals in:

  • Memory – 1GB vs. 512MB for the other two
  • Games – Over 200 vs. 100 for Roku and 30 for Google Chromecast
  • Processor – Dual core vs. Single core for the competitors

That’s fine and dandy but what really matters is content programming, right? The only content channel that Fire TV Stick doesn’t support (at least currently) is HBO GO. However, The Force requires balance so to keep an interesting playing field, there are channels that Roku and Google Chromecast also don’t support that Fire TV Stick does, so it’s a matter of trading off what’s important to you as the viewer. Do you prefer HBO GO or are streaming games via Twitch TV or is business and finance via Bloomberg more your thing?

Between Amazon Fire TV and their Fire TV Stick, they’ve got a solid streaming 1-2 combo for any media enthusiast. Yet, no matter which product you pledge your allegiance to, consumers come out ahead with by so many options to choose from.
