Drawp –Taking the Drawing Board With You

While it’s been taking place for years, I finally had a chance to attend this year’s Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA. If you’re not familiar with this weekend event, in short, I like to think of it as a centralized gathering of raw creativity.

In our world, we deal a lot with digital creativity be it art, music, film, etc.  But an event like Maker Faire on many levels is where that all starts from – the essence of creating using metal, wood, plastic, and all the traditional tools our forefathers used in days of yore.

Yet amidst all the robots, marshmallow guns, solar fans and steampunk costumes was a duo from Moondrop Entertainment showcasing an art application on iPad called Drawp.

Currently available on iTunes, this art application geared towards young children (but with some interesting hooks for the whole family) allows them to create, color, paint and draw anything they can think of not only using a dazzling array of colors, but brush schemes such as “furry,” “cloud” or “mega pixels.”

Now the real hook comes in around sharing. You can setup individual profiles for family members allowing with one swipe your child to email their creation to Mom, Dad, Grandma or Aunt Tootie. Responses from family members about their latest masterpiece come back to them directly instantly keeping the familial bond close.

This app was very easy to pick up and play, as proven by my own son who immediately sat down and created his version of Batman.  Guess I know what to get him for his birthday.

There are plenty of art apps out on the market, but Drawp definitely looks to be onto something with the easy accessibility, design, easy-to-use interface and of course, the ability to share with loved ones.

Give it a download for your iPad on iTunes and let your inner Picasso shine.
