HBO vs. Netflix – Who Wins? We Do

If you’ve been keeping up with entertainment news as of late, the fight for subscribers between HBO and Netflix has been taken to another level as according to this article, Netflix has surpassed HBO for the first time in subscriber revenue.

Truth told, I’m surprised this hasn’t happened a while ago. Netflix has an incredible subscription model allowing for streaming, DVD delivery or both and they have a massive library of content – albeit the quality is subjective. HBO on the other hand, has kept to their original programming with shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, VEEP and more.  But that may not last too much longer as this war heats up.

Broadcasting and Cable states in this article that HBO Go, HBO’s mobile app, is exploring the possibility of carrying other content. Not sure how much of a game changer this will be, but when companies duke it out, we as consumers tend to do okay in reaping the benefits…provided we’re ok with the pricing model.

It’ll be interesting to see how other companies in streaming media like Amazon or Hulu will respond this situation and what changes (if any) they make to their services.

Streaming media is big business whether it’s music, film or something else that hasn’t been created yet. All of these services are great, but made it personal with devices like Wireless Plus and Seagate Central where you can stream your own movies, music and photographs anytime or anywhere. This is a great alternative when you don’t feel like watching Kickboxer 4: The Aggressor.
