LaCie, Seagate’s premium storage brand, today announced it is adding USB-C technology to its Rugged® mobile drives. The upgrade makes it ideal for next-generation computers like Apple’s MacBook, as well as USB computers.
The Rugged USB-C drive’s USB-C cable is fully reversible, so there’s no wrong way to connect the product. The new drive is Thunderbolt 3 compatible and backward compatible with USB 3.0 computers, thanks to an included USB 3.0 adapter. The drive offers transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s, enabling creative professionals to quickly transfer footage.
With capacities of up to 4TB, the LaCie Rugged USB-C has ample space for massive amounts of photos or video footage and provides enough bandwidth for quick backups and browsing large media libraries without a lag. And like its predecessors, the LaCie Rugged USB-C features the tough, “all-terrain” durability creative pros have come to rely on for more than a decade. The drive, with its distinctive orange rubber sleeve, is designed to protect data from drops, dust, water and unauthorized access.
The LaCie Rugged USB-C is available later this month in 1TB ($139.99), 2TB ($179.99) and 4TB ($249.99) capacities.
User-friendly interface innovation
The new drive continues the company’s innovation around USB-C technology—the user-friendly connector of the future. Last year, LaCie was the first to introduce a portable drive with a USB-C port, with the LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Drive. And earlier this year, Seagate unveiled the world’s first USB-powered desktop drive, the 8TB Seagate Innov8, which features a reversible USB-C connector.
Since 2015, USB-C has been widely adopted by many smartphones and tablets. Apple’s latest MacBook has just one USB-C port as the sole peripheral device and power port.
