I don’t know if I can find the right words to describe last nights “One Night Only: A Celebration of the Live Music Experience” event, but let me give it a swing.

Yes, I think that about covers it. If you have ever dreamed of having a GRAMMY experience, but can’t get to the actual show, the GRAMMY Foundation has provided a great alternative with their Music Preservation Project events.
From the moment the lights dimmed and music by the Colburn Orchestra began, I knew it was going to be something special.
As it says in the name, the event focused on the celebration of live music. Recorded formats are all fine and dandy, but there is something about hearing music live that can ignite a fire within your soul that you can’t always get when listing to your CD or MP3 player. Maybe when you’re playing “Car-Karaoke” singing your heart out at a traffic light, but it’s still not the same as being at a show. Watching and listening to a live performance invokes a feeling within, it creates memories and can build excitement on every level.
Hosted by Sharon Osbourne and Steve Vai, the audience was treated to clips highlighting various venues based on music genres such as The Troubador, The Opry, and The Apollo. Each performance by the artists was passionate and intoxicating to the point where many took to their feet to sing, dance and celebrate the music. It was such a brilliant evening, especially Dave Koz who is a childhood idol. Some of the artists I was introduced to (like the ah-mazing L.P.) are now on my playlist!
