School is in Session

One of the great things about working at a company like Seagate is we get to support so many great initiatives that touch the digital lifestyle. Whether it’s photography, films, video games, art or in this case, music.

It was recently announced that Seagate is supporting the GRAMMY Foundation’s 14th Annual Music Preservation Project’s One Night Only: A Celebration Of The Live Music Experience taking place in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 9th at the Saban Theatre.  The event is hosted by Sharon Osbourne and Steve Vai.  Performers scheduled for this event include Shelby Lynne, Marc Martel, Beverly McClellan and among many others, with Bret Michaels as the closing performer.

This event explores the history of live concert performances and will celebrate the contributions of those events as well as their influence on American culture.  Please join us!  For $25, you’ll be able to support a worthy cause as well as experience a live performance for yourself. (Click here to purchase tickets).

GRAMMY in the Schools is the part of the GRAMMY Foundation that works to make a difference in the lives of people through music.  In looking at their Facebook page, you’ll learn the following:

“People” = “Young People” a.k.a. “Kids” a.k.a. “Youth” a.k.a. “Future Generations”
“Difference” = “Positive Change”
“Music” = “ Tunes” a.k.a. “Melodies” a.k.a. “Lyrics”

Through these programs, high school students (See People above) get to work with trained music professionals and get real-world experience in the music industry ranging through careers such as audio engineer, promotions, production, journalist, singer, songwriter and more.

One such example of a program is called GRAMMY Camp.  This is a week-long (and then some) session where attendees immersive themselves in a music experience along with another attendees from all across the country.  Music professionals will be on hand to assist with writing and recording music, visiting music based web sites and top it all off with a concert at a professional venue.

What a great cause! It is sad to see schools having to cut so many great programs in the face of budget cuts. I love that people are finding a way to help one another.
