Subscription VOD Has a Captive Audience

Group

We’ve all heard the expression “Content is King,” and Neilsen’s Total Audience Report seems to confirm this. Recently released, the report has some incredible data highlighting the role that SVOD (Subscription-based Video on Demand) is playing in the amount of content consumed by U.S. audiences. Check out these key stats:

  • Over 40% of U.S. homes have access to an SVOD service
  • 13% of homes boast having multiple streaming services in their homes.
  • 25% of SVOD households are people under age 35 (45% with children)
  • SVOD households spend 2:45 daily on TV-connected devices. (e.g. game consoles, multimedia devices)
  • Adults spend 4 hours and 51 minutes watching live TV daily

When was the last time you ran into someone that didn’t have a subscription to a service like Netflix or Hulu? If they don’t have an SVOD service, you can rest assured they soon will. These services, and the recently announced HBO Now, are big business and are only going to get bigger.

Why? Content is king.

“U.S. consumers are adding time to their media day and making time to connect with their favorite content, no matter where it exists.” – Dounia Turrill – SVP Insights, Nielsen

We want to be entertained. We want our television shows and movies. We want to spend 30/60/120 minutes escaping our daily routine in worlds like 1960’s New York (Mad Men), Westeros (Game of Thrones), Zombie-ridden Georgia (The Walking Dead) or Washington D.C. (Scandal). We want to be entertained so much that streaming devices such as Apple TV, ChromeCast, Roku and Seagate Personal Cloud make getting on-demand content easy and accessible.

Seagate Personal Cloud?
Of course.

With Seagate Personal Cloud, you can cast your own personal content (home movies, music you’ve purchased, etc.) to a Chromecast, LG Smart TV or Roku player to your big screen TV for the full experience. And it’s easy using the Seagate Media app.

Yes, content is king – regardless of whether it’s your movies or music or your favorite TV shows from other SVOD services. Let Seagate Personal Cloud be the kingdom in which the content resides.
