SXSW – At The Movies

When you take a step back and look at everything South by Southwest has to offer, you can almost be overwhelmed. It feels like each year a new component is being added to this 9-day festival. You really have to plan a trip accordingly to see everything or instead just focus on one particular aspect of the show whether it’s music, comedy, film, gaming or interactive.

Because of our involvement with the House of Vans promotion, we’ve talked a lot about music (and the Seagate House of Vans Sweepstakes that you really, really should go enter) but not so much about some of the other aspects of the show, like movies — and I looooove movies.

SXSW Film has a number of unique aspects to it including the panels, mentor sessions, conversations and more.

Mentor Sessions allow 1-to-1 engagements with industry professionals where you can ask questions and get feedback on film related projects.

Conversations is reminiscent of Inside the Actors Studio where you have a direct, intimate conversation with actors and filmmakers allowing them to talk more about their craft.

Panels, well, yeah, kind of self-explanatory. =)

Film is such a major component of our culture. It doesn’t see race, color or religion, but can encompass all of those things really tapping into the creative spirit. It can start with an idea or thought and transform worlds and change views. There is a lot I’ve learned from film that I know has helped shape me in some way or form. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

Check out the films showing during the last couple days of SXSW, you may find that perfect gem.
