The New Avaya Stadium Brings the Cloud a Little Closer

In days of yore, battle lines were drawn between the “jocks” and the “nerds.” There was even a series of films where those labeled as nerds sought revenge on those jocks who would mock and ridicule them. Thankfully, those days have come and gone and pioneers like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have become “geek icons” revered as much as Michael Jordan, Payton Manning and Derek Jeter are in the wide world of sports.

It makes it even easier when companies like Avaya bring jocks and nerds together under one roof with a new cloud-enabled sports venue for the San Jose Earthquakes – the first of its kind.

Opening in time to kick off the Major League Soccer season, the stadium uses a cloud-based networking backbone from Avaya to allow guests to connect wirelessly from anywhere within the stadium.

Fan engagement during sporting events is taken to a new level at Avaya Stadium. Imagine sending a tweet or photo during the game, tagging the venue, and having it appear live on-screen while at the game. Better yet, imagine ordering food from your seat. Avaya stadium is leveraging cloud-based technology to give fans of the San Jose Earthquakes a richer, more connected sports experience.

Coinciding with the grand opening of the stadium is the launch of the Avaya Stadium app. Built from the ground up with the Earthquakes fan in mind; the app will help them get acquainted with their new San Jose home. App users can use it to navigate their way through the concourse to find vendors to buy team swag, food and of course, the closest restroom. The app also includes FAQs to help to answer questions for any first time visitors. Lastly, no sports app would be complete without the ability to learn more about the team roster and season schedule or engage on social media channels with other Earthquakes fans.

With the opening of the new stadium leveraging Avaya engagement solutions, they continue making strides to connect people and technology – regardless of venue.
