Twitter Trending The Geekie Awards Answers the Question #RUGeekie

Last night was the inaugural launch of the first annual The Geekie Awards and it was nothing short of geektopia.

“Hollywood meets Geek” was in full form last night with celebrities such as Seth Green, Clare Grant Richard Hatch, Miracle Laurie, Christopher May, or cosplayer enthusiasts Valerie Perez or Chrissy Lynn wowing the crowd as a Star Trek Vulcan officer or Marvel Entertainment’s Black Cat respectively.

The event was overflowing with excitement with categories such as Art & Craft and Retail Stores & Websites where kicking things off was the awarding of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award given to Stan Lee. After winning his award, Stan broke into a song about being a geek to the tune of “Yankee Doodle Dandy”.

I can’t think of anything else to really kick off a show of this caliber.  Between this song, “Ode to Sponsors” by Black Nerd Comedy, the “cosplay battles” and the random appearances by the League of S.T.E.A.M. to ensure that no one was being attacked by vampires, it was an amazing night. So much that the #RUGeekie hashtag made the Top Ten Twitter trends ranking higher than the finale for True Blood.  Geek power!

And if you’re reading this wondering, “what does this have to do with Seagate?”, I may have to kick you. An event like this is a fine example of creative professionals at their finest. With actors, craftsmen, musicians, DIY’ers and more, this is a great opportunity for us to capture the creative spirit and talk with those living the dream about how they view the creative process and what inspires them.

So we hung out in the “Honey Room” and did exactly that. Look for videos and pictures from the event to be posted soon on our Facebook page.  It was a great event and we look forward to sharing the experience with you.
