What Should You Expect from CES

The Consumer Electronics Show starts tomorrow and while Team Seagate is already in Las Vegas for pre-show events like Digital Experience, the anticipation of what’s to come is pretty high.

By now, you’ve already read the news about our Seagate Wireless Plus and Seagate Central products where both have one the prestigious CES Innovations Award.  If you haven’t, be sure to check them out to see the next evolution in Seagate storage.

So what about the rest of the show?  Last year’s show was very heavy in the world of mobile and supersized television sets. On some level, I don’t expect it to be much different this time around, but there is a few articles talking about the show that have caught my attention.

The Connected Home – (Courtesy of All Things D) With everything from televisions to refrigerators having connectivity, it feels like we are moving closer and closer to a future that looks a lot like The Jetson’s. And I really liked The Jetson’s. (Well, except Astro their dog.)

Self-Driving Cars – (Courtesy of CNET) Both Audi and Toyota are looking to join the ranks of Knight Rider with cars that won’t require drivers. How a person is supposed to get anywhere, I’ll never know, but given my commute, having the ability to catch some extra snooze time is something I’ll embrace with a blanket.

Smart TV’s – (Courtesy of Multichannel News) – Smart TV’s were the rage last year at the show and it’s not likely this trend will slow down anytime soon.  The concepts of second screen viewing for an enhanced viewing experience are likely to increase as more tools become commonplace for accessibility.  While I still refuse to become a tablet owner, I can definitely see the benefit of having it handy for an immersive experience. I’m usually surfing my smartphone during TV viewing anyway to look up Wikipedia or character bios.

I’m confident I’m only at the tip of the iceberg on what to expect from a show like CES.  There’s so much to see, do, touch, smell, taste (ok, maybe not taste) that the excitement from the event can be overwhelming. I’m excited to hit the show floor with camera in hand to try and capture it all.
