Who’s Ready for Cloud Gaming?

A quick show of hands? Everyone? Yeah, I thought so. I stumbled on this article on VentureBeat that talks about how Telltale Games is interested in kicking their content up a notch to allow for cloud-based gaming.

Can I just say, I’m all in? First, about Telltale – if you’re not familiar with this SF Bay Area developer, you’re missing out on some quality gaming experiences. They’ve taken established IP’s (Intellectual Properties – that’s corporate fancy-talk) like The Walking Dead , Game of Thrones and Vertigo Comics’ Fables and have made some amazing, episodic video games that will tug on your heartstrings like Disney movies from the 50’s. (I’m looking at you, Old Yeller). You can buy the games individually or purchase what’s called a “season pass” and they’ll be available on your PC or game console upon release.

Given the nature of the gaming experiences, leveraging cloud technology is a natural evolution. If they’re able to pull off what they’re striving for where you can start a game on one platform, and continue on another, I can tell you now, my lunch breaks are about to get much more interesting. Netflix is doing this already and I can’t tell you how much I love it. It’s one if the best ways to keep the party going on – even if it’s a party of one.

As a storage manufacturer, we’re all about it. Video games are one of the fun aspects of this business regardless of whether you save your profiles or game data to the cloud or on your own internal/external drive.

So hey, Telltale guys reading this article, (and I know you are), if you need some help with your infrastructure, give us a holler. We’re happy to hop in the passenger seat of a 66’ GTO and ride off into the future with you.
