Who’s Running in the Race for Big Data?

The race for Big Data is on. But you knew this already, didn’t you? If you’re just tuning in, “Big Data” is defined as sets of data that is so large or complex that it can’t be managed with traditional data processing applications. If you’ve read previous blogs, you know I like to cite Netflix as an example of a company using Big Data as it was one of the tools used to create their exclusive show, House of Cards.

Unless you’re actively paying attention, you may have missed some of the corporate acquisitions that have taken place over the last couple years consolidating the Big Data business.  The nice folks over at Blue Ocean, have been nice enough to create this handy infographic that breaks down the Big Data landscape outlining some of the trends taking place in this aspect of business.

The infographic really positions Microsoft to place itself into an industry leader in a few years, so it’ll be interesting to see how the race plays out given how late to the party they were.  But as the saying goes, “slow and steady wins the race.”
