Cloudscaling joins Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance

Elastic infrastructure provider Cloudscaling recently announced that it joined the Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance. Although the elastic cloud concept is not new in the industry, Cloudscaling emerged as a pioneer in applying the technology to private cloud environments.

The company’s Open Cloud System is built with an OpenStack-powered elastic cloud infrastructure. Adopters of the technology include LivingSocial and Ubisoft. As one of the first businesses to support OpenStack, Cloudscaling is well poised to incorporate open design concepts into its offerings. One example is the organization’s deployment of the Nova compute and Swift storage public cloud.

Cloudscaling’s partnership with Seagate will help it build highly scalable, customizable solutions. Using open platforms allows it to lower operating costs and optimize its technology according to unique customer needs.

“Recent customer and partner momentum are proof points that the benefits delivered by Open Cloud System are striking a chord,” said Michael Grant, CEO of Cloudscaling. “Our relationship with Seagate is the latest example of that momentum, and we’ll leverage that advantage to further distance Cloudscaling from the rest of the field.”

Demand-driven cloud infrastructure design may represent the next era of cloud computing, according to Cisco. Highlighting comments from Lew Tucker, Cisco Systems vice president of cloud computing, InformationWeek editor Charles Babcock recently identified several trends affecting enterprise IT. The proliferation of big data, mobile devices and collaboration software has led to higher demand for cloud storage. At the same time, businesses must accommodate a more diverse range of needs.

Open source design allows cloud builders to customize their solutions according to the demands they need to meet. Companies that are part of the Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance are able to leverage best-in-class solutions from leading providers while also effectively expanding their expertise to better connect the interconnected pieces that must come together to optimize cloud deployments.
