Nexenta and Opscode Enterprise Chef collaborate on CloudStack solution

Nexenta, a Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance partner, has announced a partnership with Opscode Enterprise Chef that will give enterprises more options for integrating software-defined technologies into their data centers. The solution is designed for CloudStack users and is being exhibited at the CloudStack Collaboration Conference from Nov. 20 to Nov. 22.

The Nexenta-Opscode partnership enables more comprehensive management of hybrid cloud infrastructure. Storage, networking and computing resources can be easily configured with less human error, thanks to automated NexentaStor arrays using Opscode Enterprise Chef.

Accordingly, cloud storage systems built around CloudStack have become more reliable. Enterprises can ensure constant availability of their most critical applications. With NexentaStor and Opscode Enterprise Chef, organizations can build more sophisticated software-defined data centers.

“[Opscode Enterprise] Chef code can be deployed to tune NexentaStor as needed for each unique group within an organization,” stated Opscode vice president of business development Ken Cheney. “This combination presents a unified storage pool to both the CloudStack deployment and any other systems simultaneously via [network file system], automating storage resources at the software layer to minimize management.”

At the same time, Nexenta has been ramping up its efforts in the value added reseller space as it tries to compete more directly with NetApp and EMC. According to CRN, Nexenta is focusing on boosting channel operations in the U.K., where it currently operates with a few partners. Globally, Nexenta works with 300 resellers but is aiming to increase the total to between 10,000 and 15,000 over the next two years.

While its channel operations are relatively small for the time being, Nexenta has cultivated a number of key partnerships. Speaking to CRN, Nexenta CEO Tarkan Maner stated that the company had more than 25 clients in the U.K. that were part of the Fortune 500.
