Seagate, Nexenta and Silicon Mechanics present on software-defined, cloud storage

It’s hardly a secret that the business world is transforming at the hands of fast-evolving technology such as software-defined, cloud storage. The Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2013, taking place October 6 to 10, provides thousands of business professionals and CIOs a forum to discuss some of the most powerful trends making an impact today. Drawing more than 10,000 professionals, the Orlando-based event addresses the transformative forces at work within organizations, with multiple IT learning experiences scheduled that are meant to assist CIOs in identifying new opportunities to innovate and drive company growth.

Leading cloud builders Seagate, Silicon Mechanics and Nexenta recently announced they are partnering up for a presentation at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo, in which they will showcase some of their software-defined storage products. Steve Scherer, Silicon Mechanics solutions sales manager, announced his participation in the presentation titled “Unleashing the Value of Data to Accelerate Enterprise Growth,” which will exhibit a case study on recent cloud storage systems deployment for remote monitoring technology firm ESRG.

Strategic partnership to develop ESRG storage solution
As will be discussed in the presentation, Seagate, Silicon Mechanics and Nexenta worked together in developing a storage solution for ESRG. Silicon Mechanics provided its zStax unified storage appliance for the end solution, which is a software-defined storage platform based on open-source ZFS technology powered by NexentaStor. The zStax appliance was developed with flexibility in mind, capable of supporting business continuity with reliability and replication features. Seagate 600 Pro SSD and 1200 SSD were utilized in the storage solution.

Scherer will also be present at the Seagate booth at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo to answer attendee questions regarding Silicon Mechanics storage solution offerings. During the presentation, Scherer will be joined by ESRG’s IT manager John Schleigh, who will also comment on how the company’s cloud infrastructure and storage solution enables the organization to continue to deliver services to its clients while supporting its software-as-a-service business needs. Schleigh will specifically share his insight on how companies can leverage state-of-the-art technology in the same manner as ESRG so that previous infrastructure investments are not wasted and performance can be boosted. Then at the Seagate booth, Scherer will demonstrate to attendees how new technology investments can facilitate future purchasing flexibility with an optimal price-to-performance ratio.

Nexenta CMO Bridget Warwick will also be participating in the presentation, representing her company’s SDS technology designed to optimize cloud storage infrastructure. Her role in the presentation will mainly focus on the pressing need for data storage solutions and cloud hardware to evolve alongside the fast-transforming technology infrastructure.

Silicon Mechanics is a leading provider of rackmount server, storage and high-performance computing solutions, and Nexenta is a leader in software-defined storage, delivering high-performance solutions developed to be highly scalable and secure. Both Silicon Mechanics and Nexenta are valuable members of the Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance, often working together to provide their clients with customized cloud storage solutions developed with the flexibility and scalability in mind to ensure that storage infrastructure is “future-proofed.”

“Seagate’s Cloud Builder Alliance is an industry leading initiative focused on building customized solutions that provide flexible, scalable [server] and storage solutions for the cloud,” said Jeff Burke, Seagate vice president of strategic marketing and research. “As a Cloud Builder Alliance partner, Silicon Mechanics is participating in Seagate’s mission to drive innovation through the storage ecosystem. We are proud to be partnering with hardware and software leaders to generate value through real business solutions like those developed by Silicon Mechanics.”
