Supermicro TwinPro and TwinPro (2) lines updated with higher performance

Supermicro, a Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance partner, has updated its 2U TwinPro and TwinPro 2 product lines. The new appliances are specifically designed for big data projects, enterprise cloud storage, high-performance computing and data center operation. Customers can get more return on investment from infrastructure upgrades, as Supermicro’s product are cost-effective, energy efficient solutions for data-intensive workflows.

Buyers can choose from 2-node and 4-node configurations on the TwinPro and TwinPro 2, respectively. TwinPro appliances are boosted with LSI 3108/3008 12Gbs SAS 3.0 controllers, meaning that they provide maximum I/O for storage. Network bandwidth is optimized through the inclusion of onboard 10GbE or InfiniBand 56Gbs FDR/40Gbs QDR options, and NVM Express ensure rapid PCI-E SSD performance.

Users have many configuration options, including PCI-E 3.0 expansion slots and room for 12 2.5-inch SSD/HDD trays or 6 3.5-inch drives. In terms of processing power, the new TwinPro lines support dual Xeon E5-2600 v2 CPUs, with the option for a full-length GPU or a Xeon Phi coprocessor in the case of the 2U TwinPro.

“Supermicro’s new 2U TwinPro and TwinPro(2) maximize performance and power savings by integrating the fastest storage and network technologies available into our resource optimized, energy efficient 2U Twin architecture,” explained Supermicro president and CEO Charles Liang. “In this Twin evolution, we’ve accelerated I/O by integrating 12Gbs SAS3 and NVM Express to unleash the full performance potential of SSD storage.”

These new solutions leverage flash storage for increasingly demanding tasks, but they do so with great energy efficiency and at an affordable price. The TwinPro motherboards and chassis are optimized for airflow cooling, with shared 80mm fans and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Total cost of ownership is further lowered through remote IPMI management to stay on top of power outages and technical challenges.
