(Video) Los Alamos National Lab & Seagate: A Partnership to Help ‘Explore Our Futures’

In the video below Kyle Lamb, Infrastructure Team Lead at Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) speaks about the unique challenges he faces at a facility known for being at the forefront of technology.

In his role Kyle manages storage at a large scale, from computers that span the size of a football field, That is nearly an acre of data for which he is responsible. To accomplish this LANL utilizes Seagate long-term, disk-based and high performance parallel file system storage solutions.

As Kyle points out, “One of the benefits of working with Seagate is that they are not only provide us with the drive but also providing us with an enclosure; they test both the drive and the enclosure before they ship that out to us, which mean whenever we receive the product we know that we’re receiving something that’s already been tested and vetted and we can start using that from day one.”

In looking forward over the next three years Kyle signaled the importance and growth anticipated from long-term, disk-based storage. This along with the cloud based technology, pioneered by LANL, has made them an early adopter of utilizing these solutions for an high performance computing (HPC) environment.
