Xyratex adds 12 Gb/s SAS storage to OneStor

One of the most significant differentiating factors in the cloud infrastructure industry has been performance. As capacities scale to meet ever-growing demand, service providers must be able to ensure almost no latency for mission-critical applications. In addition, companies have the increasing need to access their data in real time. Xyratex, a Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance partner, recently advanced the speed of its platform with an industry-first 12Gb/s SAS storage solution.

“Xyratex has a long history of innovation in OEM data storage, and our OneStor solutions are top-rated in the OEM marketplace because of their ability to deliver the best in performance, reliability and value,” said Ed Prager, senior vice president and general manager of OEM Storage Solutions at Xyratex. “Our 12Gb/s support extends these benefits through the ability to integrate high-performance flash storage in a seamless manner over the fastest interconnects and accelerate existing 6Gb/s rotational devices, all within our standard density and unique high-density enclosures.”

The solution allows the Xyratex OneStor platform to achieve a maximum theoretical input/output bandwidth of of 28.8 GB/s. The platform’s performance is further driven by support for SSD drive technology, including the Seagate 1200 Series.

Xyratex has had a proven track record of delivering OEM storage solutions worldwide. In fact, IDC recently recognized the company in its Worldwide Disk Storage Systems 2012 Vendor Shares report, noting that Xyratex held a 50.1 percent market share. IDC research analyst Amita Potnis highlighted several factors that have pushed OEMs to adopt these solutions. For example, these companies have faced increased pressure from end users to build highly efficient solutions. Even while facing performance demands, providers such as Xyratex allow OEMs to minimize the total cost of ownership of their hardware.
