Xyratex helps US government reach for the cloud

Pushing for greater technological innovation, the U.S. government has made numerous strides in cloud service adoption in recent years. As Ecommerce Times columnist John Higgins put it, cloud technology isn’t yet commonplace among federal organizations, but it is definitely becoming more frequently utilized than in years past. Higgins cited the Veteran Affairs Department’s recent migration to cloud-based email as an example of how agencies have not only met mandates set by the Cloud First initiative, but achieved significant results in the process.

Aiding in the government’s push toward greater technological performance and scalability, cloud storage company Xyratex announced earlier this month that it partnered with Hewlett Packard to install ClusterStor High Performance Computing within a federal workplace. Integration is a primary advantage of the ClustorStor architecture – the technology brings together server, network and other storage platforms to an integrated system.

“We worked with the federal government to define the optimal configuration of the ClusterStor solution that met the specific needs for this intelligent application,” said Ken Claffey, senior director of the ClusterStor business line at Xyratex. “We’re very excited about this strategic win within the federal government, as it’s the latest sign of the tremendous progress we’ve made with ClusterStor over the last 18 months.”

Xyratex described the ClustorStor Scalable Storage Unit (SSU) as a building block that enables “rapid deployment, scale and productivity.” The SSU is five racks high and can reach up to six GB/s of read and write capability as well as one TB/s file system processing. Storage capacity is scalable from several terabytes to many petabytes.

Xyratex is a Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance partner.
