Please follow this procedure if you are having difficulty connecting to your Wireless Plus device from your mobile device.
You will first need to download the latest version of the firmware from the Seagate website. Here is a link to the Download Finder. You will need your Seagate Wireless Plus' serial number in order to be able to access the different downloads.
Once the firmware has been downloaded, follow these steps :
- Turn your Seagate Wireless Plus off.
- Connect the Seagate Wirless Plus to your computer using the USB cable.
- Locate where the firmware file downloaded to on your computer.
- Do not extract or open the file you downloaded. Make sure the file is still a .bin file (example : seagate_wirelessplus_2.3.0.013.bin).
- Drag and drop or copy and paste the firmware file to your Seagate Wireless Plus drive. Make sure you put the file in the root of the drive, not into a folder.
- Safely disconnect or safely eject your Wireless Plus.
- Power on the Wireless Plus device and wait for the Wi-Fi LED to turn solid blue (this should take a few minutes).
- From your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings, select your Wireless Plus.
- Make sure the drive is powered on and gets a solid blue Wi-Fi LED. The drive should not be connected with a USB cable to do this.
- Locate the pinhole under the drive. It should be right by the label.
- Stick the paper clip in the hole and hold it for 10 seconds, then let go.
- Power off the Seagate Wireless Plus drive by pressing the power button on the side of the drive.
- Wait for both lights on the drive to be off. Once the drive stops spinning inside, wait 30 seconds, then power the drive back on, using the power button again.
- Wait for the blue Wi-Fi LED to come up and solid. Look with your mobile device and try to connect to the drive again.
If you are still unable to connect wirelessly to your drive at this point, there might be some form of corruption on the system files running on the drive. The easiest way to get rid of that corruption is to format the drive. Since formatting the drive will erase all data on it, we recommend that you make a copy of your files to another media, such as your computer or another external drive. Once your data has been successfully duplicated to another device, please follow these steps to format the drive :
On a Windows computer :
- Power the drive off, then connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
- Once the drive detects, access (My) Computer.
- Right-Click on the Seagate Wireless Plus' icon, and choose Format.
- All the default options should be correct. Make sure you select the maximum capacity for the partition, make sure the format selected is NTFS and make sure the "Perform a Quick Format" box is checked. You can also give the drive a name of your choice to identify it when it's connected to the computer via USB.
- Click on "Start" to format the drive.
- Once the drive is empty, put your data back on it. When it's all copied over, safely remove the drive and disconnect it from the computer. Power the drive back on.
- Attempt to connect from your mobile device again.
- Power the drive off, then connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
- Once the drive detects, access Disk Utility.
- Select the Seagate Wireless Drive on the left hand side of the screen.
- Click on the Partition tab.
- Under "Partition Layout", click on the drop down menu and choose "1 Partition".
- Give your drive a name you can recognize once it's connected through USB.
- Choose the format of your drive. If you want to use the drive between Mac and PC, select "Windows NT File System". This option will only be available if you have installed the Paragon driver on your Mac computer. This driver comes preloaded on the drive and is installed when you click on the "MacInstaller.dmg" file, located in the Seagate folder inside your Seagate Wireless Plus.
- If you want to format the drive to be used only with Mac computers, you can select MacOs Extended as the format for your drive.
- Click on the "Options" button and make sure you choose MBR (Master Boot Record) in the list.
- Click on the Partition button at the bottom to start formatting the drive.
- Once the drive is empty, put your data back on it. When it's all copied over, safely eject the drive and disconnect it from the computer. Power the drive back on.
- Attempt to connect from your mobile device again.
