Infographic: Saving Energy By Using the Cloud

Businesses who succeed with cloud strategies often adopt the cloud for many different reasons. Efficiency (cost reduction) can play a big role, but a thoughtful alignment with other business goals can yield equally important results.

Even cost comprises many different factors. An infographic published by Virtual Internet (check it out below) shows us plenty of interesting numbers for how much energy the cloud saves among small- and medium-sized businesses. Some key numbers include:

• An average sized company could lower energy usage by 65 to 85 percent by using cloud-based solutions
• This translates to a reduction of at least 64.5 tons of CO2 per SMB
• If all U.S. SMBs switched to the cloud, the country would reduce CO2 production by 28,020,500 tons of CO2
• If SMBs shifted to the cloud worldwide, total monthly savings would reach approximately $1.7 billion

Virtual Internet also took the trouble of putting some real-world use cases for what the world could do with it’s savings. For example, the global savings per month is the equivalent of approximately 370,000 years of flying from London to Sydney. With the annual savings (an estimated $206 billion), one could buy land equaling thirteen times the size of Jamaica!
