In keeping with their longstanding tradition of giving back to the community, employees at Seagate’s recently opened Fremont Research Center (FRC) in Fremont, California hosted students from nearby Irvington High School.

The intent of the tour was to help students learn more about the technologies used to store, create, secure and share data and experience first-hand how engineers work. Students got to see the newly moved R&D pilot line in action, don bunny suits (anti-contamination garb) and tour the cleanrooms. Highlights of the tour included the 1-megawatt solar-energy system — which is capable of powering 25 percent of the site’s energy needs — and sustainable-design features such as smart blinds to leverage natural light and a rainwater-harvesting system.
