Firmware update information for BlackArmor NAS. Check to see if a new update is available.

Feature Enhancement:
Complete overhaul of the Seagate Global Access service offering that includes:

  • New remote share web site at seagate.tappin.com
  • New mobile apps to access your BlackArmor NAS from your smartphone or tablet.

Issues addressed:

  • Implemented security improvement for php
  • Static IP address filter removed
  • Improvements to DLNA aimed at the support of MKV files

If the firmware upgrade installation instructions are not followed properly, the firmware upgrade could be data destructive and/or render your hard drive inoperable. As Seagate does not warrant the data on your drive, in addition to regular back-ups, your data should be backed up, if possible, before upgrading the drive firmware.

Firmware Upgrade Instructions

  • Step 1
    • Download the .img file to your system and take note of the location where it was saved.
  • Step 2
    • Open your browser and launch the Seagate BlackArmor Web User Interface (UI). Provide administrative username/password authentication when prompted. The system Status page opens. 
    • Supported Web Browsers (for Web Management Interface): 
      • Windows: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer, Firefox 2.xx or newer
      • MacOS: Safari 3.1 or newer
        Note: Though this is a simple procedure, it is recommended that you backup any/all critical data before continuing.
  • Step 3
    • Click on the Firmware Update link provided in the left column of the Web UI. The Auto Update page opens.
  • Step 4
    • Click on the Manual Update link provided in the left column of the Web UI. The Manual Update page opens.
  • Step 5
    • Select Browse to locate/select the .img file. Once the file/file path is populated in the field provided, click the Submit button. The update starts automatically. This may take a few minutes to complete.
    • Note: During the update process, do not refresh or shutdown your browser. When finished, the BlackArmor NAS 220 restarts. You will be returned to the Login page where you can authenticate again to access the Web UI.
