Seagate Wireless Devices - Unable to connect to the Wireless Device and the Internet at the same time

Troubleshooting in case a connection with the device fails, or if the device will only allow you to connect to one or the other.

Note: When this article refers to a Wireless Device it is referring to a Seagate Wireless Plus or a Seagate Wireless.

The Seagate Wireless Device will connect concurrently to your internet connection. By connecting concurrently, your mobile device or computer can still connect to the internet and access the data on the drive.

However, if you find the connection with the device fails, or if the device will only allow you to connect to one or the other, please proceed with the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Open the Settings menu of the mobile device.
  2. Turn off the mobile device’s Wi-Fi.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Turn the mobile device’s Wi-Fi on again.
  5. Try the connection again.
Note: When you connect your Wireless Device to your internet connection, it will disconnect your mobile device from the Wireless Device for 30-60 seconds and then reconnect you.  Closing or leaving the Seagate Media App during this process can prevent you from connecting back to the Wireless Device's network.

If the problem persists, please continue by enabling Multicast streams on your router.
To do so, check the user documentation and/or contact the manufacturer.
Search for how to enable multicast streams on your device manual (you should log in to your router’s settings through a browser, select advanced, then enable multicast streams).

Some routers include the option called "Enable Multicast Streams." This must be checked for the router to allow you to connect.

Note: On DLink-615 router model, this service comes disabled by default.
