Seagate just gave PlayStation 4 gamers a serious storage boost. This week we announced that our Seagate Game Drive for PS4™ is now available in a 4TB model, double the capacity of its previous edition. Check it out:
The 4TB portable drive has room for more than 100 of this holiday season’s hottest new titles, including Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Call of Duty: WW II, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Destiny 2. While that much capacity sounds like more than most players would ever need, consider that average game sizes now range between 35GB-to-50GB. And 4K games for the PS4 Pro console go even higher—from 80GB-to-100GB.
Seagate’s latest Game Drive is aimed at serious gamers who don’t want to “choose which games to keep and which ones to delete,” says Eber Legarreta, product marketing manager at Seagate.
Gamers Are Eager for New Drive Capacity
“Our 2TB Game Drive for PS4 has sold very well since we launched that product in June,” he says. “That’s a perfect drive for many gamers. But since that drive came out, our retail partners have been asking us about a higher-capacity model. They can’t wait to see this drive on their shelves.”
With our latest Game Drive, Seagate continues its storage innovation for the world’s best-selling game console. Sony has sold more than 63.3 million PS4 consoles to date, and sold nearly 500 million games—both digital and physical format.
Why Seagate Brings More Goodness for Gamers
In June, Seagate was the first company to deliver a portable drive built and tested for the PS4, after Sony released a software upgrade allowing gamers to expand console-storage capacity with an external hard drive. And we’re still first, now with a 4TB portable drive for the PS4.
“We’re seeing significantly bigger games each year, and this holiday season is no exception,” says Legarreta. “And with more and more 4K titles on the way, those file sizes are becoming really massive. This new drive rounds out our storage choices for gamers, as we now have 2TB and 4TB portable drives for the PS4 console, as well as the Xbox.”
The 4TB model still packs all the great features that made Seagate’s first external drive for the PS4 a hit. The Game Drive’s fast USB 3.0 connection, for example, gives gamers the same great performance they’d expect from their console’s internal drive.
And like the 2TB model, the bigger drive also offers easy plug-and-play portability. Gamers can take the drive to a friend’s house and continue playing on their console when they return home. And because it’s USB-powered, there’s no need for an extra power cord.
Setup is a breeze, as well. Plug the drive into any of the console’s USB ports and the user is automatically guided through setup steps that take less than three minutes. And the drive’s striking industrial design—a black with blue-striped aluminum enclosure—is made to pair well alongside a PS4 console.
The Seagate Game Drive for PS4 4TB capacity will be available by the end of October at retail outlets.
