At SC14 – Be Our Guest

We’re now less than two weeks from the inaugural Seagate HPC User Group event, taking place between 4:30-7:00 pm on November 17, at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott at the Convention Center. For Seagate and its guests it will be an exciting kick-start to a busy week at SC14.

This event was the subject a piece written, last week, by Ken Claffey, VP/GM at Seagate Cloud Systems & Solutions. Within it he addresses the notion that, despite Seagate providing core disk drives into the HPC market for decades, there are still some who don’t associate the name Seagate with the HPC community. For this and many other reasons we are hosting this user group event.

Here are more details of the event and a link so that you can register to be our guest.

  • 4:30 – 5:00 Cocktail reception
  • 5:00 – 5:15 Welcome – Ken Claffey, VP/GM of SSG, Seagate
  • 5:15 – 5:35 Guest Speaker – Gary Grider, Los Alamos National Laboratory (description, below)

Deeper Storage Hierarchy for Trinity, Probably Too Deep
Trinity is Los Alamos National Laboratory’s newest Advanced Technology System for the US/DOE/ASC program. With compute capability of over 40PF and a memory capacity of over 2PB, the system requires special considerations for its storage hierarchy. In this talk, Gary Grider will describe the storage architecture for this machine and the potential directions for extreme-scale HPC storage solutions.

  • 5:35 – 5:55 Refreshment break
  • 5:55 – 6:15 Guest Speaker – Bill Kramer, University of Illinois Blue Waters Project
  • 6:15 – TBD
  • 6:35 – 6:50 Closing Remarks – Ken Claffey, VP/GM of SSG

Reply now and reserve your spot and while you’re at it why not contact our team to schedule an appointment for the show, at our booth #3239? There will prizes as well as an exciting raffle for attendees of either the user group event or a booth appointment. We look forward to seeing you at SC14.
