Egnyte improves file synchronization in the enterprise

Cloud computing storage must meet an increasingly sophisticated set of workflows, especially with regard to file collaboration and synchronization. However, as enterprises work with larger collections of files, they may struggle with latency in their public cloud setups. An overtaxed network can be expensive both in terms of lost productivity and the cost of procuring extra bandwidth. Accordingly, it is more important than ever that companies have access to the efficient high-speed synchronization services of Egynte, a member of the Seagate Cloud Builder Alliance.

In a piece for CloudTweaks, Salman Ul Haq observed that some organizations have resorted to complex cloud storage arrangements, split between multiple providers, in order to keep pace with growing data volumes and application usage. Often operating at massive scale, these companies may see themselves as caught between the unpleasant prospects of performance bottlenecks and having to resort to consumer cloud services. Fortunately, Egnyte recently confirmed that its enterprise service can sync even a 500 GB file in only 7 minutes – a dramatic improvement over the 72 hour period that can be the norm with the other offerings.

With better bandwidth utilization from using Egnyte, organizations can also avoid having to pay up to $6,000 per month just to acquire an additional 420Mbps of speed, according to Egynte statistics cited by Haq.

“Top providers like Egnyte are pushing the envelope when it comes to speeds mostly by using the deduplication and change management techniques found in traditional network optimization platforms,” wrote ITBusinessEdge’s Arthur Cole. “[I]t highlights the fact that enterprises need a proactive strategy when dealing with sync and collaboration or risk the health of the entire data infrastructure.”

Additionally, Egnyte’s security practices mean that enterprises can benefit from improved efficiency and better data safety. Egynte users hold their own encryption keys, and Egynte has been a pioneer in the encryption of cloud data both in transit and at rest.
