Seagate 60TB SSD Named “Best of Show” at Flash Memory Summit

Brett Pemble, Seagate GM and VP of SSD products, center, accepts the Best in Show AwardSeagate’s brand-new 60TB SAS SSD is already making big waves in the flash technology world. Sporting the highest capacity of any SSD in the world, this week it took the Best of Show award for Most Innovative Flash Memory Technology at the 2016 Flash Memory Summit (FMS).

This Best of Show award recognizes innovations that will change the way flash memory is used in products to improve performance, availability, endurance and/or energy efficiencies.

“Enterprise IT customers clearly have an insatiable appetite for greater performance and capacity with new storage investments and are seeking the next storage generation of performance and scale,” said Jay Kramer, chairman of the awards program and president of Network Storage Advisors Inc. “We are proud to select Seagate 60TB SAS SSD for the Best of Show Technology Innovation Award as it nearly quadruples the highest capacity SSD on the market today and enables a whole new set of potential applications for storage solutions in the marketplace.”

World’s Highest Capacity SSD

Seagate 60TB SAS SSD displayed at FMS 2016The 60TB SAS SSD offers twice the density and four times the storage capacity of the next highest-capacity SSD available today; it has room for 400 million photos on a social-media platform, or 12,000 DVD movies.

This single-controller architecture also delivers the lowest cost-per-gigabyte for flash available today. Seagate’s 60TB SSD is ideally suited for large storage arrays, active archiving and read-intensive environments.

We had the SSD set up in the Seagate booth at FMS this week, operating for everyone to see. We’re told the dozen award judges had to unanimously agree on this best of show award, so we feel honored to receive such an award from this esteemed group.

Seagate also demonstrates the fastest and densest at the Flash Memory Summit

While the 60TB SAS SSD took the awards committee by storm, the “largest-ever” SSD isn’t the only first Seagate displayed. Leading up to this convention, Seagate’s introduced a major expansion to our SSD and flash memory product lines that also includes the “fastest ever” and the “densest ever.” Watch a Facebook Live video with Kent Smith from FMS.

The Nytro XP7200 add-in-card is an 8TB NVMe PCIe Gen 3 x16 solution with a fastest-ever sequential throughput of 10GB-per-second for a single add-in-card. It’s designed for high-performance computing, big data analytics and scale-out databases.

This solution leverages Seagate’s new Nytro XM1440 2TB M.2 enterprise SSDs with integrated power loss data protection, a first for that capacity in an M.2 for enterprise environments. Each highly dense card can support 2.5 GB-per-second — four of these are integrated into the XP7200 and operate without a PCIe switch onboard, reducing cost, energy, and latency.

The FMS convention, held this year from August 9 to 11 in Santa Clara, Calif., is the premier annual event showcasing the mainstream applications, key technologies, and leading vendors driving innovation in flash and SSD technologies.
