Seagate ClusterStor L300 Chosen by French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission

Seagate ClusterStor L300 chosen as the scratch storage tier for CEA’s “CCRT-D” data management infrastructure

clusterstor-l300-205x300Seagate has announced that the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) will use Seagate ClusterStor L300 for its Research and Technology Computing Center (CCRT-D) HPC storage needs.

In collaboration with Atos, the CEA has chosen Seagate ClusterStor, a scale-out data storage and management platform, for its high-speed ability to derive maximum performance from every disk while reducing storage footprint – and ownership costs.

The CCRT-D installation will achieve 4PB capacity and 69GB/sec filesystem throughput in phase one of its deployment.

Key quotes from the newsmakers:

Christine Ménaché, Head of CCRT at the CEA: “Following a previous successful partnership, CCRT and Atos selected Seagate and its L300 Lustre based storage solution to further develop HPC storage and state-of-the-art computing. Key environmental factors such as density and power requirements weighed in favour of Seagate’s ClusterStor solution as well as Seagate demonstrating an acute understanding of what is required to meet the needs of CCRT’s research and industry users. Seagate ClusterStor excels in performance and, over the past few years, has proven its stability in the most demanding HPC environments.”

Ken Claffey, VP/GM at Seagate Systems Group: “Alongside the widely recognised challenges of performance, density and power/cooling, customers are increasingly concerned with stability at scale. Seagate ClusterStor is the solution of choice for four out of five of the world’s fastest (Terabyte-per-second and over) file systems. Put simply, we’ve proven again that ClusterStor is the leading platform for stability and predictable performance at scale. The CEA’s selection of Seagate for their two new main supercomputers further symbolizes our leadership in providing the highest performing, fully-engineered solutions for HPC.”

Eric Eppe, Director of Storage & Data Management Product Line, Extreme Computing, at Atos: “Atos has built the new CCRT bullx compute and storage system to deliver 1.36 PFlops of peak performance, and more than 69GB/s of storage bandwidth. This puts Atos and Seagate at the leading edge of extreme computing and data intensive workload achievements.”
