SkyHawk Wins SSI Security Solutions Award at GSX

  • Seagate SkyHawk hard drive wins Security Solutions Award

Seagate SkyHawk Wins SSI Security Solutions Award at GSXSeagate’s SkyHawk hard drive has been selected by Security Sales & Integration Magazine (SSI) as winner of its 2018 Security Solutions Award in the Video Surveillance category. Honorees are chosen by the vote of an independent panel of expert judges along with the editors of SSI.

The annual Security Solutions Awards are given each year during Global Security Exchange (GSX). The award program spotlights applications that help ensure access control, fire and life safety, intrusion detection, security monitoring, video surveillance and more.

The award panel emphasizes that the program distinguishes those manufacturers and vendors whose electronic security solutions have been proven in the field to meet security, safety or other organizational needs for end users.

Proven in the field for mission-critical security and surveillance

SkyHawk was chosen for the honor based on a case study provided by system integrator Sentry Security Systems that illustrates the drive’s unique strengths. A large hotel in Niagara Falls, N.Y. needed a security surveillance system upgrade. The hotel is situated in a popular tourist area downtown with a high volume of foot traffic, where effective systems to deter crime can be especially important. The hotel knew it needed to upgrade its systems to improve its ability to retrieve security footage, which is central to helping police resolve crime incidents. Sentry Security Systems installed a new multi-camera system supported by dedicated servers using Seagate SkyHawk hard drives to ensure reliability and performance. Sentry says it regularly recommends SkyHawk for mission-critical applications.

Sentry’s story about its deployment of SkyHawk hard drives will be highlighted in an article in Security Sales & Integration’s December 2018 Technology issue and on SecuritySales.com. Sentry has also outlined several other critically important security system deployments you can read about here.

The award’s expert panelists only consider products and solutions that are in current use and actively being deployed by system integrators. Thus each submitted project has to have been installed in an actual customer setting within the past 18 months, as well as having demonstrated success in that deployment.

“The real test for manufacturers’ products — especially when dealing in the sometimes life-or-death realm of security and safety — is how they truly meet the needs of both the security integrator and their customer,” says SSI Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher Scott Goldfine. “How does a given device or system deliver problem-solution results in the field deployed in real-world scenarios? That is the true litmus test and why SSI founded the Security Solutions Awards. This unique program is an outstanding platform for security product suppliers to showcase their wares and a unique source for integrators to identify project solutions.”

Judged by experts for technical merit, features, user-friendliness, results and client satisfaction

Each solution considered for the awards is judged by a panel of experienced independent security industry professional integrators and consultants. This panel evaluates not only the technical merits and ease of installation of the product or technology solution, but also its ability to help system integrators meet the specifications, design parameters and cost requirements of their customers.

SkyHawk 14TBAward winners must demonstrate that they deliver the highest level of system capabilities, features, functionality, user-friendliness, results and client satisfaction across a full range of general, niche and vertical market applications.

Solutions are also judged for their ability to satisfy regulatory, compliance or code requirements.

Seagate SkyHawk hard drives offer the highest capacity of any drive explicitly designed for security and surveillance video, and its features are unmatched in the industry for surveillance end-users and system integrators. Security system customers need high-performance, reliable storage that’s optimized to handle very large surveillance video workloads around the clock, and which may also include metadata tagging to enable AI analytics and deep learning. These applications require more than a standard PC hard drive. A surveillance-optimized drive is necessary to support the round-the-clock workload rate and ensure there are no dropped frames.

With the ability to manage video data from up to 64 HD cameras at a time, SkyHawk is optimized for DVRs and NVRs, tuned for 24/7 workloads, and equipped with ImagePerfect firmware to minimize dropped frames and downtime. And with capacity up to 14TB, a single SkyHawk drive can store over 9000 hours of HD video. Customers can also benefit from unique SkyHawk Health Management technology that actively monitors and analyzes drive health, empowering users to prevent, intervene and recover from potential anomalies.
