50 most influential cloud companies

Marketing yourself as cloud company is one thing.  Throwing the word “cloud” on a product is another. The fact of the matter is that if you really want to understand what cloud is and where it’s heading, you need to immerse yourself in the technology, and that doesn’t start and stop with reading and attending webinars. It takes getting out there and talking to partners, to customers, to companies that were born in cloud.

Seagate has been immersed in cloud for the past 2 years trying to figure out what it really meant, not only for us, but for our partners, and the end users of our products – cloud service providers and data center customers – and not just in the US, but all over the world.  If there is one thing we have learned is that the cloud opportunity differs greatly from one region of the world to the next. To be successful in helping partners build a cloud strategy, or customers embrace cloud technology, we had to build and prove our own cloud strategy and embrace and experience our own use of cloud technology.

The learning is on-going evidenced by Seagate’s recent announcement about joining open source communities like Openstack and the Open Compute Project.  In addition, we continue to reach out to cloud experts and communities in each region to share best practices and learn from partners and customers.

Making lists like this is great, but the true measure of success will be experienced by the growth of our cloud partners, and that will remain our primary focus.
