“Enthusiastic” about Constellation ES 6Gb SAS

Bjorn3D took a look at Constellation ES 6Gb/s SAS drives together with an LSI 3Ware SAS 9750-4i 6Gb/s RAID Card and summed it up as “a marriage made in heaven” with “eye-popping performance”…you get the drift. Both the Constellation ES and the LSI RAID controller receiving 9.5/10 and a Golden Bear Award.  Check out the complete set of benchmarks here.

Bjorn3D indicated that being an enterprise drive, they were not able to test enterprise features like vibration tolerance, but did want to see how this drive would perform in an enthusiast type desktop/workstation.  Makes one think…are enterprise drives becoming a solution for gamers, multimedia pros, etc, or are they just too expensive?  That all depends…value is in the eye of the beholder, and worth is equal to what someone is willing to pay.  I see some enterprise drives being adopted in the performance desktop realm, mostly enterprise SATA drives, but why not SAS?  Looks like LSI has a great selection of RAID controllers boasting 6Gb/s SAS speeds, and lord knows Seagate leads the way in enterprise drives with the 6Gb/s SAS interface.

Is it time for 6Gb/s SAS to go gamer?  Or has it already?

Chime in.
