When Seagate released GoFlex Satelliteback in May of this year, it was all about Apple iPad and iPhone users. The GoFlex Media app was available for iOS, but the40% of the market that is Android would have to wait for an app just for them. Well the wait is over, and you can hear men everywhere shouting, “it’s about time!”
Men?
Yes, men. I’m not saying that women do not use Android based smartphones or tablets, nor that Seagate is purposefully trying to hone in on males with the release of this app, but the stats are interesting: according to Admob via Forbes.com, “73% of Android users are male, compared with 58% of webOS users, 57% of iPhone users and 54% iPod touch users.”
With the GoFlex Media App—available now on Android Market, and the ability for men everywhere to watch, listen, enjoy 500GB worth of their favorite content with ease, could we expect a rash of purchases of (stereotypically) “guy”movies like: The Godfather, Patton, Rocky, The Bridge On The River Kwai, or Platoon, or music from the likes of: Godsmack, Metallica, Guns and Roses, Pearl Jam, Van Halen (I am dating myself here)? Or better yet, sports. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to download any NFL game or College football game to watch in peace on your “Mandroid” phone or tablet? Think of the 500GB worth of pure entertainment that would provide. I for one could watch Super Bowl XX over and over again…the last time my beloved Bears won it all.
Now that’s something to get excited about, if only it were possible.
