Storage-less mobility…call me skeptical, controlling, and demanding

The rumors circling around Apple releasing an iPhone Nano by the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg have been all over Twitter and the blogosphere lately. The main topic of discussion is relative to the device being free of any local storage. Everything will be fed to the device via Apple’s iTunes cloud infrastructure. The wave of the future….maybe, maybe not.

According to some of the comments on TiPb from consumers regarding this strategy, some caution at storing everything in the cloud (reference T-Mobile Sidekick circa 2009). Most simply would like Apple to focus on delivering a larger iPhone screen.

What does this say for cloud storage in general?

Not much…we cannot base an entire technology revolution on a few comments about a rumored product from a single company. Albeit Apple, who has been on a visionary roll the past few years.  But, if I were to make the leap, from a consumer perspective:

People still want local storage both on their mobile device and home on their desktop, laptop, external drive, or NAS.  Some, I would argue most, feel more in control of their content when it’s in their possession versus sent who knows where to be stored and protected in the cloud.  And, people want choices…they want to be able to choose between syncing their mobile devices to the cloud, their home system, or both. So, to sum this up, when it comes to our digital content, we’re still…

…skeptical, control freaks, that demand options.

How great is that!

Are you an iPhone user?  Would you consider an iPhone Nano? Why or why not?
