Subaru has an infotainment aha moment

This past January at CES 2012, Subaru showed off a prototype of their 2013 BRZ complete with cloud enabled content powered by aha. Now it’s official that aha’s auto cloud enabling technology will be made available across all Subaru models. That news from this article on Motor Authority by Thomas Bey.

I had never heard of aha before until a co-worker of mine introduced them to me on a recent cloud strategy call.  All of this talk about personal clouds, public, private, hybrid clouds, clouds in the home, the data center, I completely forgot about the car.  Heck, I blogged about Mercedez Benz at CES and their use of cloud technology.  I guess I had my own “aha” moment, as we call them, that the car is yet another cloud enabled device.

So what does this aha technology do?

According to their website, they “provide users with easy access to their favorite content wherever they may be (in-vehicle, home, office or on the go) with a consistent infotainment experience across multiple platforms, users can seamlessly transition their experience from one platform to another. Drivers will no longer need to wait in their cars for a great segment to end. Instead they will be able to simply move into the home and pick up the same show right where they left off on a home multimedia system. Everything from social media integration to geolocation to internet radio, the platform is packed with content available on your phone (left), or built-in to the dash as shown in the BRZ prototype (above).

Makes satellite radio look old school. This is just another example of how the smartphone maybe the only mobile gadget you’ll need…ever again.  Okay, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch. I’m still tethered to my keyboard…call me old school, but my kids, well they may be a different story.

When do you think technology like aha’s will be in every make and model of every car company?
