USB 3.0…wait, not so fast.

1340959779_83988a1b64Brooke Crother’s blogger on Cnet’s nanotech: the circuits blog reports that Intel is saying, “wait, not so fast” on integrating USB 3.0 into it’s silicon until at least 2011, which means we won’t see USB 3.0 widespread adoption until at least 2012.  According to InStat, that’s twice the time it took Intel to roll out USB 2.0 in 2001-2002.

Why the wait? Check out Brooke’s blog for some additional insight.

This may bode well for products like Seagate’s BlackArmor PS110 USB 3.0 Kit.  Cnet Labs “fastest USB external hard drive to date.”   USB 3.0 hard drive complete with a USB 3.0 PC-Card and cable provides users what they need to take advantage of the speed today.

Will Intel’s decision to wait on USB 3.0 slow down storage manufacturers’ investment in USB 3.0 enabled drives?  I don’t think so.  Seagate introduced USB 3.0 ready storage without any promises from Intel, as did other drive companies. Perhaps this is an opportunity for other chipset companies to differentiate with USB 3.0, or perhaps a USB 3.0 host bus adapter upgrade market will flourish.

Then again, if Intel says “wait” then maybe USB 3.0 is not that big of a deal for the masses, but then again, maybe it is. I’m not willing to wait.

Faster is always better when it comes to USB storage.

I like seagate and wait, BUT:
I have the motherboard Intel with USB 3.0 from March !! Your article is not actual ! :)) WD produced first USB3.0 hard disk, may be it’s not full USB 3.0, but better than USB2.0. But you knew better than we-users.

I’m sorry, not Intel, Asus motherboard and not Intel USB3.0, but ASUS motherboards are popular !
