E3 2013 – PlayStation 4 – Will They Reclaim the Crown?

Once upon a time, Sony ruled the console market. The PlayStation®2 system dominated the Microsoft and Nintendo offerings. But in 2005, when new consoles launched, this all quickly changed. The Xbox® 360 took the lead over the PlayStation®3 and the Nintendo Wii™ (for a short time, anyway).

Fast-forward to 2013 and the “console wars” have returned. Microsoft had a strong showing at this years E3, but the buzz at the show is that Sony took everything that Microsoft threw at them, and hurled it back. If you watch the two conferences back-to-back, you can see the sweet science of boxing applied as Microsoft attempts a right and Sony counters with a left covering heated topics including backwards compatibility, digital rights management, always on connectivity and the knockout punch – pricing their system at $100 less than the competition.

Sony has learned a lot in the last eight years. They’ve had a lot of time to review campaign and development missteps, dig deep into audience demand and to properly plan for the future. And from the looks of things, they are putting themselves in a great position to come out on top this holiday season.

Do you think they’ll reclaim their crown?
