Everything In Life I Learned From The Cosby Show

I don’t know anyone who didn’t watch The Cosby Show. Whether it was during it’s eight year run or in reruns. The show had a great way of showing the dynamics of family in a positive way that through comedy could teach great life lessons about parenting, discipline, acceptance, peer-pressure, friendship, family, education, race, finances, loyalty, respect and so much more.

Sometimes I’ve been asked what my own family dynamic is like and I’ll ask them if they’ve ever watched The Cosby Show because when we get together, that’s what it’s like.  Other shows have captured the same tone such as Family Ties or current shows like Modern Family, but there was something about The Cosby Show that made it stand out and endure even after thirty years.  (Quick show of hands if you’re now feeling old.)

One thing about The Cosby Show that I really appreciated, more now in reruns than when it was on, is that it was one of the few shows that I can recall changing the opening credits for each season. If you can think of another, definitely comment below. But for each season of the show, there was a different take on the opening music. The overall music was the same each year, but it ranged from jazz to mambo to classical giving each season a unique feel.  Don’t remember? Check out the clip below with all the seasons featured. (I think Season 6 is my favorite. You?)

The show really embraced its evolution. You can see each of the children growing up as we grow up because The Cosby Show became our TV family. We tuned in each week to see who was going to do what. We saw the departure of Denise and her eventual return after coming home from Hillman College and show spin-off, A Different World. We celebrated the births of twins Nelson and Winnie. We all probably shared a bit of confusion on where cousin Pam came from since you never saw any other family outside of the grandparents.

Evolution – that’s something that as a storage company we can also get behind. As the needs of our consumers grow, we too grow to meet those needs.  If you remember our GoFlex Satellite, the forerunner for what’s now Seagate Wireless Plus, you’ll see how we continue to evolve  and meet your needs for always- accessible media. Adding Seagate Central for a family of wireless devices ranging from 500GB to 4TB, no matter what you may need, Seagate will have the perfect product for that demand.

While you may need a couple of these devices to hold all of your favorite episodes of The Cosby Show, we’ll keep listening and evolving for a vibrant culture that creates ever more art, photographs, music, movies and more.
